To strengthen Jakarta’s strategic plan as a global city, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), invited Karsa City Lab to collaborate. This was formalized through the signing of a cooperation agreement (MoU) in an agenda titled To The Future of Jakarta, held at the Benyamin Sueb Hall, Grha Ali Sadikin, Jakarta City Hall, on Friday (March 21).
Karsa City Lab will serve as the “delivery partner” for the Jakarta Provincial Government in global city policy innovation strategies, through assistance and policy implementation, collaboration hubs, stakeholder dialog forums, and human resource capacity development.
“As an innovation laboratory, Karsa City Lab is here to support Jakarta’s transformation into a global city. We believe that with close collaboration between various policymakers, Jakarta can become a prototype for other major cities in the world in inclusive and sustainable urban planning. Through this agenda, we want to open a space for dialog for all parties to together formulate the future of Jakarta,” stated Dedi Wijaya, Managing Director of Karsa City Lab.
Opened by the Head of Jakarta Bappeda, Atika Nur Rahmania, and the Managing Director of Karsa City Lab, Dedi Kusuma Wijaya, the event was attended by 120 stakeholders, consisting of Jakarta Provincial Government officials, Jakarta Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and Karsa City Lab partners including academics, practitioners, and international media.
More than just a ceremony, this agenda featured a discussion titled To The Future of Jakarta that invited three speakers from different backgrounds to discuss Jakarta’s journey toward becoming a global city: Batari Saraswati, Ph.D., as a representative of Systemiq Consulting; Kevindra Soemantri as a culinary specialist; and Riena Tambunan as a running event specialist.
Furthermore, through this agenda, Karsa City Lab successfully bridged the birth of a cooperation commitment between Systemiq Consulting, the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and ClimateWorks Foundation with the Jakarta Provincial Government, focusing on research, policy, and implementation efforts to address air pollution in Jakarta.
“Air pollution is not just an environmental issue; it has a significant impact on public health and Jakarta’s economic growth. Strong collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government, ministries, and civil society is crucial to implement key programs for a healthier and more prosperous Jakarta,” said Batari.
In addition to Systemiq establishing a partnership with the Jakarta Provincial Government, two other speakers shared strategic plans for realizing Jakarta as a global city in their respective sectors. For example, Kevindra discussed Jakarta’s potential to support tourism and the city’s economy through the culinary sector. Meanwhile, Riena, as a specialist in various sports events in Indonesia and abroad, shared the positive role of sports events in strengthening Jakarta’s image as a healthy, active, and sustainable global city.
After consolidating the Cooperation Agreement with Jakarta Bappeda, Karsa City Lab will expand its support to various Regional Government Organizations (OPD) and other Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) within the Jakarta Provincial Government to assist various policymakers in Jakarta in accelerating the city’s progress toward becoming a global city.
