Karsa CityLab served as a strategic partner in convening an intimate roundtable discussion titled “Towards Jakarta’s 500th Anniversary and Global City Vision: Catalysing Investment for Clean Air” at Cikini 82, Jakarta. The forum brought together more than 20 organizations across key sectors including government, business, finance, development partners, and research institutions to outline collaborative actions for addressing the air pollution crisis. According to analysis by Systemiq, improving Jakarta’s air quality between 2025 and 2030 could prevent up to 32,747 premature deaths, generating health and economic benefits valued at USD 27 billion.

During this closed-door discussion, stakeholders examined emerging findings from the Jakarta Clean Air Investment Roadmap, which focuses on three primary pollution sources: transport, industry, and waste. The dialogue highlighted the acceleration of seven catalytic projects, including speeding up the electrification of two-wheelers, expanding public transit access, supporting cleaner industrial processes, and stopping open waste burning. As a strategic partner, Karsa CityLab facilitated in-depth conversations on the critical need for fit-for-purpose financing, clear institutional ownership, and integrated governance across Greater Jakarta’s shared airshed.

The insights gathered from this roundtable will strengthen the Jakarta Clean Air Investment Roadmap, developed by Systemiq with support from the Clean Air Fund, scheduled for its official launch at the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2026 on October 7. The roadmap will be launched alongside ITB’s Greater Jakarta Emissions Inventory and Source Apportionment studies to provide solid scientific evidence driving concrete action. Through this partnership, Karsa CityLab reinforces its commitment to supporting clean air policies and investments that will transform Jakarta into a healthy, competitive, and sustainable global city.
