A collaborative platform dedicated to advancing participatory approaches in urban governance. It brings together methods, conversations, and practices that strengthen the role of citizens and communities in shaping how cities are planned, governed, and experienced.
By fostering dialogue among policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and communities, Participolis explores how participatory governance can become an integral part of urban decision-making. Through research initiatives such as the Participatory City Governments Study and knowledge exchanges across cities, this program aims to develop new frameworks and practices that empower citizens while strengthening accountable and inclusive urban institutions.
Participolis invites urban stakeholders to reimagine governance as a shared endeavor, where participation is not only encouraged, but embedded as a core principle in building cities that are responsive, democratic, and globally relevant.
Study: “Participatory City Government”
In an effort to realize a global city that is citizen-oriented, Karsa CityLab, in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA Provinsi DKI Jakarta), initiated a series of research initiatives, pilot programs, and institutional innovations. This effort aims to generate more participatory urban solutions that grow from the voices of citizens themselves, through the concept of “Participatory City Government (PCG)”.
